Landscaping is a part of homesteading I love. Don’t get me wrong. It’s hard work. But the creating of the space is fun, and the labor of implementing the design is great exercise. When the rooster and I first bought our homestead we knew it needed work and had great potential. We started on the inside (I’ll save that for another post), but I love a home with great curb appeal.
I want to feel welcomed when I pull in a driveway. And so the plotting began. I called a friend who is a master gardener and she helped me with the design. I knew rocks were a must have as I love natural elements.
But first things first. I had to dispose of the old landscaping before I could start with a new design. I worked on the break down of the old landscaping over a course of 6 months before I got everything cleaned out. Now please understand the entire front part of the house was COVERED in this stuff, so this small pile was all that remained after months and months of shoveling rock out of the flower beds.
