Keeping chemicals out of your home is a great challenge, but it’s doable. One of the ways we keep a chemical-free laundry room is by making our own detergent and using wool dryer balls in the dryer.
Wool dryer balls work great for a chemical-free laundry room!
What are dryer balls you ask? Simple round balls made completely of wool. They are a bit larger than tennis balls. When you throw these into your dryer with your wet clothing they accomplish three things.
Dryer balls work by bouncing around your dryer, beating the wrinkles out of your clothes.
I use three dryer balls, but I hear the more you use the better. Below is a pack of six. Many moms I know use eight! You can click on this link to order yours now. Order one or two based on your families needs and laundry size.
Dryer balls work by keeping your clothes smelling fresh.
When you add 4-5 drops of essential oils on each ball, not only do your clothes smell great, but you are getting benefits of the oils when you wear your clothes. Purification is our favorite scent to use on our laundry balls. Some other favorites are Citrus Fresh, Lemon, Gentle Baby and Stress Away.
The last way dryer balls work to maintain a chemical-free laundry room is by not putting a waxy film on your clothes.
Dryer sheets are made with chemicals and using them in your dryer coats your clothes in chemicals. Since the dryer ball is made of pure wool, it absorbs odors and does it without the chemical build-up of a dryer sheet.
One last tip we have learned is that when you first start using dryer balls, you may notice an increase in static. The best way to combat this is in the wash cycle. Add three ounces of white vinegar to your fabric softener slot with each load of laundry. The static in your clothes will disappear during the rinse cycle. And best of all, your laundry will not smell like vinegar! The essential oils on your dryer balls will see to that.
