Have you ever wanted to make homemade air freshener? Once we decided to move to a chemical-free home this became a priority. We loved filling our home with glade plug-ins and candles. Then we febreezed all of our furniture and linens.
I can’t believe how many chemicals I had in my own home! I love my home to smell beautiful, so I decided to be on the lookout for a simple homemade air freshener.
Homemade Air Freshener works on furniture, linens, doorknobs, light switches and even just in the air.
The key to a chemical free air freshener is to use a chemical free alcohol. In the homesteading community, this is known as witch hazel. Witch hazel works as a binder between your essential oil and water. Below is a link to the kind we purchase. We’ve also included a link for glass amber spray bottles that work well.
Your choice in essential oils will play a role on what you want this homemade air freshener to do. Do you want it to disinfect? Do you simply want a holiday smell? The different oils you choose will determine the main purpose for your homemade air freshener. Decide your purpose and choose your essential oils accordingly.
We use Thieves or Purification. Both of these are odor eaters and can do so much more than making your home smell good. Not only are these amazing in your own home, they make great Christmas presents! And Thieves makes your home smell like Christmas all year long.
This recipe makes a two-ounce bottle of spray. That size is great for carrying around in your purse and using in public places. For our home, we often like to buy the larger bottles and make a big batch. You’ll learn what you like and what works for you. So just play around with it and have fun!
