Making your own homemade powdered laundry detergent doesn’t have to be complicated. We have a recipe we love. It’s not entirely chemical-free as this is one area we still in our process. If you’re like us until you become entirely chemical-free you will have areas of your home where some chemicals still exist.
It’s not always cost-effective or sustainable to move all of your chemicals out so we use the ditch and switch method. You can read more about it here.
Our homemade powdered laundry detergent is simple and easy to make.
There are only 4 major ingredients. They are all available on Amazon. I’ve put links to them below. You’re welcome 🙂
You’re probably wondering why vinegar is listed since it’s not a dry ingredient. We found over time, our clothes started smelling foul when using just homemade powdered detergent. So now, we add about 3 ounces of vinegar in the fabric softener area of the washer.
During the rinse cycle, the vinegar is splashed about absorbing all the odor. And believe it or not, you’re clothes will not smell like vinegar!
Now here’s the recipe card. Also, note that this makes one batch of homemade powdered laundry detergent. We often make 4 or 5 batches and store in a large glass storage jar. Ours lasts about 6 months! Now that you’ve got our recipe for detergent, check out our article on wool dryer balls for replacing dryer sheets!
