Motherhood is a beautiful, exhausting, joy-filled journey—especially during the toddler years. These little years are full of curiosity, wonder, and endless questions, making them the perfect time to introduce the truth of God’s love in a way that feels natural and meaningful.
You don’t need a structured Bible study or elaborate lesson plans to share the gospel with your toddler. The beauty of this season is that faith can be woven into the small, everyday moments of your day. Here are some simple and practical ways to connect with your little one and point their heart toward Jesus.
1. Start the Day with Prayer
Mornings set the tone for the rest of the day. Before breakfast, take a moment to pray together. Keep it simple—thank God for a new day, ask Him to help you both be kind and loving, and invite His presence into your home. Over time, your toddler will start to chime in, and soon, they’ll be leading their own little prayers.
2. Use Everyday Moments to Talk About God
Toddlers are naturally curious, which makes every part of the day an opportunity to point them to Jesus.
During mealtime – Thank God for the food and talk about how He provides for us.
While playing outside – Talk about how God made the trees, the birds, and the sunshine.
When correcting behavior – Teach them about grace, kindness, and forgiveness by relating it to Jesus’ love for us.
The more you weave God’s truth into daily life, the more it becomes a natural part of their world.
3. Sing Worship Songs & Scripture
Toddlers LOVE music, and songs are one of the best ways to teach them about God! Sing worship songs, hymns, or Scripture-based songs during car rides, playtime, or before bed. Simple songs like Jesus Loves Me or This Little Light of Mine help little hearts remember big truths.
If you want to take it a step further, try putting a short Bible verse to a familiar tune. Before you know it, your toddler will be singing Scripture throughout the day!
4. Read Bible Stories Together
Toddlers may not sit still for long, but they love a good story. Keep a children’s Bible handy and read a short passage each day. Books with bright pictures and simple language, like The Jesus Storybook Bible, help bring the gospel to life in a way that captures their imagination.
Even if they don’t grasp every detail, hearing the stories of Jesus will plant seeds of faith in their heart.
5. Model Faith in Everyday Life
One of the most powerful ways to share the gospel with your toddler is by living it out yourself. Let them see you reading your Bible, praying, and praising God in daily life. When they see your faith in action, they’ll learn that loving Jesus isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we live.
6. Make Bedtime a Time of Blessing
Before tucking your toddler in, take a moment to speak blessings over them. Remind them that they are loved by you and by God. Pray together, thanking Jesus for the day and asking for His protection through the night. This small ritual builds security and a sense of God’s presence as they drift off to sleep.
Final Thoughts
Teaching toddlers about Jesus doesn’t have to be complicated. The key is to make faith a natural and joyful part of your everyday life. Through simple prayers, songs, Bible stories, and the way we live out our own faith, we can plant seeds that will grow into a lifelong love for Jesus.
So, mama, take heart! Every little moment you spend pointing your child to Christ matters. Keep loving, keep teaching, and keep showing them the beauty of the gospel in the ordinary moments of your day.
