A wife & mother, photographer, homesteader with a passion for healthy living and most importantly - a life full of Jesus.
If you’re new here—welcome! If you’ve been following along on Facebook, Instagram, or you’ve just been wondering what in the world we’re doing with cows, kids, and an apparent endless supply of eggs… you’re in the right place.
Today, I wanted to sit down (with a mason jar of sweet tea and a toddler climbing over my shoulder) to give you a deeper introduction to who we are, what we do, and why in the world we’re doing it. This post is a little more heartfelt, a little more in-depth, and hopefully makes you feel like you’re sitting on our porch with us.
We’re a Jesus-loving, dirt-under-our-fingernails kind of family living out a dream that’s equal parts beautiful and chaotic. Our days are filled with cow kisses, garden weeds, toddler giggles, and the occasional “Wait, did someone shut the chicken coop?!” sprint at sunset.
I’m Sierra, the mama behind the bread bowl, the camera, and the blog. My husband John is the steady rock who builds pens, fixes fences, and tolerates my wild ideas like adding another dairy cow “just for fun.” We’ve got [# of kids] kiddos running around in rubber boots (and sometimes nothing at all), and we’re raising them to know Jesus, work with their hands, and love this land we’ve been given.
We chose the name “The Heritage Homestead” because this life isn’t just about animals or vegetables. It’s about legacy. It’s about building something with eternal value—rooted in truth, lived out in simplicity, and handed down with love.
We want our children to know where their food comes from—not just the “how” but the “why.” We want them to learn the sacred rhythm of sowing and reaping, the value of hard work, the gift of stewardship, and the joy of gathering around the table with people they love.
We want them to see faith lived out in the daily:
In the early morning milkings, when the world is still quiet.
In the kneading of dough, where prayers rise like yeast.
In the messy garden rows, where we trust God to bring growth.
In the daily chores, the sibling squabbles, and the evening prayers.
This isn’t a perfect life, but it’s a purposed one.
And in all the doing and digging and discipling, we’re building a heritage—a home full of faith, laughter, repentance, and grace. A home that points to Jesus in the ordinary.
This blog—and our little corner of the internet—isn’t just about homesteading or photography. It’s about real life. It’s about walking with Jesus while juggling babies and garden tools and wondering if you remembered to switch the laundry.
Here’s what you’ll find when you stick around:
If you’re still reading, bless you. You’re our kind of person. 🙂
Whether you’re just curious about the cows, looking for a bread recipe, needing encouragement in your motherhood, or dreaming of starting your own homestead—there’s a seat for you at our table (and probably some biscuits, too).
We’d love for you to:
